Top-heavy - head-light
In badminton, one differs between top-heavy and head-light rackets. A top-heavy badminton racket has a bit more weight in the racket head, so the focus is closer in this area. Such rackets are are rather attacking oriented and one has much power in the shot at a smash. Due to the weight distribution, such badminton rackets feel a bit heavier. Head-light rackets have a bit more weight in the grip and therefore feel a bit lighter. Due to the lower focus, one can move these rackets very fast and they are suitable for fast underhand shots and a rather technical to defensive oriented game. Of course, there are also badminton rackets that lay between top-heavey and head-light in their features - these are called "balanced".
Flexible or Stiff
Most badminton rackets are sorted in the categories flexible, mid-flex or stiff. Thereby this specification refers to the shaft flexibility. A flexible shaft bends more during shots and thus creates a larger whip-effekt. A stiff shaft plays itself more direct and therefore creates lots of power, especially at a smash. Always take note the combination of the hardness of the badminton racket stringing.
Weight of Badminton Racket
If not noted differently, the weight specification of the badminton racket is always the frame weight. The weight of the string must be added. Grips and overgrips (if used) also need to be added. A regular badminton string weighs about 5 g. A regular badminton racket out of graphite (or other fibers - no metal) weight about 90 g. Starting around 85g, one can name it a light racket. Frames with a weight under 80 g are the absolute lightweights among batminton rackets. As with all other game features of the badminton racket, the frame weight has to fit to the player type. Light rackets can be used fast and are comfortable to play for players with shoulder problems. But they also offer less swing mass and therefore are not played as aggressivly. In addition, a precise hit of the shuttle becomes more important.
